A Legacy of Educational Excellence

The Federal University of Education, Pankshin has a rich history spanning nearly five decades. From its inception as a Federal Advanced Teachers College to its current status as a specialized university, FUEP has consistently evolved to meet the changing needs of Nigeria's education sector.

Throughout its history, the institution has remained committed to its core mission of producing qualified teachers who can contribute to the development of education in Nigeria. This commitment has guided its growth and transformation over the years.

Key Milestones in Our Journey

1974

Establishment as Federal Advanced Teachers College

The institution was established as a Federal Advanced Teachers College (FATC) at a temporary site in Mararaba Pushit, approximately 17 kilometers from Pankshin town. It was one of the colleges established by the Federal Government to address the shortage of qualified teachers in Nigeria.

1977

Relocation to Permanent Site

The College moved from its temporary location to its permanent site in Pankshin town, allowing for expansion of facilities and student enrollment.

1991

Upgrade to Federal College of Education

The institution was upgraded to a Federal College of Education and renamed Federal College of Education, Pankshin. This upgrade expanded its mandate and allowed for the introduction of more academic programs.

1998

Affiliation with University of Jos

The College established an affiliation with the University of Jos, enabling it to offer degree programs in education alongside its Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programs.

2005

Expansion of Academic Programs

The College significantly expanded its academic offerings, introducing new courses and specializations to meet the evolving needs of Nigeria's education sector.

2015

Infrastructure Development

Major infrastructure development projects were undertaken, including new academic buildings, student accommodation, and sports facilities, with support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

2023

Elevation to University Status

The Federal Government of Nigeria upgraded the institution to a Federal University of Education, Pankshin, recognizing its contributions to teacher education and expanding its capacity to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

2024

Expansion of University Programs

As a newly established university, FUEP began expanding its academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement activities, positioning itself as a leading institution for teacher education in Nigeria.
